Well then unfortunately its completely your friends fault, sorry to say that.
Its not the transmission mount, its the bracket between the transmission and the transmission mount, not exactly sure what it is called however. Maybe you can grab a part number off the actual piece. I wouldn't know how much these go for but at least you don't have to get a new mount, just this bracket.
WTF do you want? I put the parts in that he had, i recommended new ones but it never got dealt with. Totally not my fault bud

So you change out his clutch. A week later one of his transmission mount bolts backs out (one of the two that you took out) and causes the other one to snap. Please tell EVERYONE on here how this isn't ENTIRELY your fault.....

What you want me to defend my actions? It aint my responsibility when people cut corners on their own cars. I did him a favor by putting the clutch in, aswell as a couple others things, thats it. I cant be held responsible for everything that goes wrong with the car after that. boom
judging by the pictures it looks as tho the one bolt snapped First and then caused the other bolt to tear out of its thread as you can see in the picture the mount is stripped and the material left on the bolt. no mechanics error there just part failure. he made it clear he needed a new set of bolts for this job. it just sucks when u have to do what you can with what you got because of lack of funds or time or whatever.
unless the bolts were torque to yield bolts new ones shouldn't of been needed. looks like they were way over tightened at some point.
sucks man. at least everything else is ok. I have had cars at work where the motor mount blew and repairs get costly (this was at mazda, mazda 3 passenger side motor mounts bust all the time)
Ok note to everyone, all bolts associated with any part of a mk4 motor mount are stretch bolts and NEED to be replaced every time they are removed. They also need to be torqued to spec when installed. They are not that expensive and this is what happens if you don't replace them.
*insert rainbow* The more you know.

lol only vw/euro cars would use them in the most obscure places. I love these cars but personally I would replace them with a higher grade bolt that is torqued a tad bit over spec. Crap like this shouldn't be happening on a regular basis, and snapping a bolt is ********. But yes I agree with you, if the shop decided to cut a corner and not use new bolts, I would be giving them a call monday.
I personally wouldn't replace them with a higher grade bolt that is over torqued.....why?
1 - Stretch bolts are used to apply a certain clamping force, i wouldn't suggest going over this plastic deformation force that these bolts apply because then you risk stripping out threads and ****.
2 - The stretch bolts do not need to be re-torqued after their initial torquing. They also hold up exceptionally well to areas of high vibration and heat cycling (vibrations are present in this case) and do not back out like regular bolts seem to.
Again i am just speaking from my engineering experiences, classes in material sciences, material structures and stress analysis, and my experience working on cars but if people specify a stretch bolt, please use a brand new stretch bolt, especially when its a super critical part such as in the head or a motor mount. Just common sense.

I had the same problem. One bolt snapped and rotated the mount. My engine looks just the same. Crooked as ****. Took me about 3 hours of drilling and re taping but I got I back together. What a piss off
