  • Engine droppped?????? Pics included

So it happened yesterday night, was driving my cousin from U of C to Mckenzie. On the way to U of C was fine but when we left a parking lot, I heard this weird noice. Not a loud bang, but more like sound you would here from tire rubbing. So at this point we were on 16th East, pulled over into some neighborhood and popped to see whats up. The engine (right side) dropped about 2 inches while the other side is still in tact! I was like WTFFFF?? How can that happen? Anyways drove on (I know I shouldnt have), drove carefully on deerfoot because right now the clearance between my oil pan and the road was less than 1 inch.

Fast forward, dropped my cousin off, drove slow and carefully on deerfoot again. All was well, until I was turning left on Centre St from 16th West. All of a sudden I heard a loud bang and stuff scraping.

Popped the hood and saw this!

Anybody know what might have caused this?? Engine mounts?

Looks to be your tranny mount let go and looks like your axle is toast as well, or has popped out.

After some googling, apparently snapped transmission bolts are a common problem on the vr6.

Looks like you will have to drill and easy out the snapped one...... did the other one back out or did it strip?

Hum, if I saw my engine had dropped 2 inches....maybe I wouldn't of drove it any further. Would of been a cheap fix before, now you get to spend money, lol

              Dude that sucks!

Too bad my axles wont work on your transmission or else you could have had them.

It looks like the first bolt sheared off and that caused the threads to pull off on the second tapped hole, which majorly sucks. You might have to drill the hole out to the next tap size and get two larger sized bolts. There is enough material so that it wont adversely effect the structural strength of the mount.

Well not you know what that wheel shudder problem was! I never would have thought of that one for sure. I would offer you the mount off my parts car but I need it there until I pull the motor. I do think the safest bet is to get a new one and not dick around with that one. Although I am sure you could drill it to a bigger size or heli coil it in the end I won't think it would be worth it. Hopefully you get it sorted out soon.

I would never of thought of that too!! And yea now we know what the problem is! I was thinkning about the same instead if messing around with the old one.

But I looked online and ECS, they don't have that specific mount. That's just the tranny mount right or any specific name for it?

Yeah that shuddering under low speeds you showed us the other night was definitely one of those bolts that had backed off....Did you also just say that you got your clutch replaced? If so this is DEFINITELY the shops fault for not using new stretch bolts in the motor mount and i would talk to them about it and what happened. They either didn't replace the stretch bolts which is mandatory for engine mounts or they didn't torque them down properly

Oh yea, it should be on there right? Gonna look for it later on. How much do you think these mounts go for? +$100?

@ Sean, I WISH I could just take a back to the shope, however, the clutch job was done by a friend in his garage.....so...yea..

Well then unfortunately its completely your friends fault, sorry to say that.

Its not the transmission mount, its the bracket between the transmission and the transmission mount, not exactly sure what it is called however. Maybe you can grab a part number off the actual piece. I wouldn't know how much these go for but at least you don't have to get a new mount, just this bracket.
