  • Windshield wiper motor or linkage gone bad

Hey guys, how do you determine if the windshield wiper or linkage has gone bad? If I try using the wipers, it would move about an inch or so and stop there. Have to use the hands to make it go back to the normal position.

I wanna get this fixed asap as it has stopped working for 2 weeks, and this mornings rain was dangerous for me with no wipers.....

Likely the main shaft for one of the wipers has seized. It has happened to me in the past. You can sort of repair them but it will eventually happen again. If it really is the motor I have one that might work for you in my garage.

Like repair them as in just lubricating them? And how do I know for sure if it's the main shaft or motor has gone bad? Do they give out different symptoms?

Go get some RainX for the windshield, will help significantly while you try to get this sorted. My wiper linkage is kinda tweaked so it is super loud when being used at high speeds, with RainX I hardly turn them on anymore.

It is just a poor design, the shaft that the arms sit on seizes up after time when corrosion works its way into the rack. Sometimes you can disassemble it and clean it up and put it back together. I am going to try to add a grease nipple to my old rack one day and see if that helps.
