Re: Me trunk, no open, no joy

I'll try and take apart the trunk this evening, to check out where the issue resides.

Sean, by a new lid I mean I need to replace the trunk hatch as mine have a nice dent in it from when I was rear ended. Plus ever since then I've have to use more force to close the trunk properly.

Depending where you were hit and how hard, it is more likely to be the actual body that is bent (I'm saying this not knowing where you were hit but commonly car on car is low, unless you were rear ended by the dukes of hazzard.)

Fixing the latching could be as simple as adjusting the latch or popping the hatch and grabbing the lower portion and pulling it away from the car.

It is possible that that plastic piece did not break but just opened up and finally just let go of the rod. Get in there and take a look, if you want a hand send me a pm and I can try and help.

Re: Me trunk, no open, no joy

So the fix was actually incredibly easy. Nothing was broken at all.

Instead the cable had come out of it's holder. Pop the clamp open, reinsert and it's good to go.

Now as for the trunk itself, that still needs to be changed out soon-ish.

I also learned that someone my size can almost sit easily inside a closed trunk, that means I can easily fit a few bod … err, extra anything back there.

What year is your jetta? For mine, like nismodrifters posted video, the plastic bit broke thats why its not opening for me. Seems like they changed the design, mine is a year 2000
