  • Engine hesitation on VR6

I have a MK4 Jetta VR6 12V and recently I have noticed theres a hestitation at the end of 3rd gear.

For example, if I floor it from first gear to second gear, second gear to third gear the power is there all the way till redline. However, at the end of third gear around 5500 - 6000 rpm it seems as though the engine is cutting out. Even if you keep on flooring it, the speed does not seem to increase. Then when I change to fourth to power is there again. This never Used to happen, only up until a month ago.

Recently I chaged the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, 02 sensor and just yesterday I cleaned and oiled the k&n filter.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

When you clean and oil a K&N airfilter...sometimes residule oil will hit and stick to your maf...but will go away after a while. I stopped using K&N when it killed the MAF in my truck!

But the problem happened way before I cleaned and oiled the filter though

Maybe have a look at and clean your MAF.

Oh haha sorry, now I remember we actually cleaned the MAF when we were doing the maintenance work a month ago. But thanks for the suggestion though!

Make sure you clean the maf with electrical cleaner, not brake cleaner. also, the hesitation may be due to the warmer/dry weather. Or maybe you just need a vrt (kidding)

But realistically the only difference between 2nd and 3rd gear would be the amount of load. And that would directly relate to the MAF.
