  • 2006 Jetta TDI transmission fluid?

2006 Jetta TDI originally had no service interval for the transmission fluid on the tiptronic. It was "lifetime". Anyone know if there was a TSB or something that changed this? Dealer in Cranbrook has said they have started changing tranny fluid on these cars, and I'm wondering what changed.

I thought the dual cluth DSG were maintanance free and the tiptronic can be flushed but generally dont require it.

Looks the other way around for this year at least:

It's not my car, it's my step-mom's. I've got family in Invermere, and Cranbrook is the closest dealer.

          My opinion:

There is no such thing as lifetime oil! as everything will break down over time.

Its more like the "lifetime" of the warranty ............ If your tranny blows and your out of warranty you are sol

Yeah, I'd say at some point, change it. It just sounded like they never used to do it, and now they do. It seemed there should be a reason for the change of their procedures. I guess I'm just wanting to make sure the whole thing isn't just a cash grab.

4year/80,000km seems to be the correct answer

I guess when VW says "lifetime" on an interval, they mean lifetime of the cars warranty...

i hate how they worded it that way. when i read the manual i thought for the life of the car. hopefully my Transmission is still ok after all this time.

Stefan the Passat is not that hard, just a little messy. I did it a year ago in the passat due to a leak. Fixed the leak and changed the fluid, took a few hours, but I was in no hurry either.

I have the car going in to scfc for some warranty stuff anyways (valve cover is leaking a little i think, and one power steering hose has some oil of mysterious origin on it), so I think I'll just suck it up and have them take care of it. They have been pretty good with service so far, and the car is under warranty so if other stuff comes up it can be dealt with in one shot.

That and my work is nuts all of a sudden, so DIY time has been cut down a lot!

But you figure the flush on the tiptronic is worthwhile every 100,000k ish?
