  • TDI Question - Diesel Additive

    Hi all,

I'm wonder what other TDI owners use for Deisel Additive. I want to find some alternative than the one from the VW Dealers. I used to use PS that I got from the Husky Truck Station on Barlow and 32 ave NE, but they don't carry PS anymore.

    Thanks,

Re: TDI Question - Diesel Additive

yes i use the grey bottle, +6 points, every time since the car was new. i either buy fuel at shell by south centre, or husky truck stop on 32nd ave and barlow. both had low sulphur.

and to save you time, the ESSO has the PS additive, the big one across from the road king. they have TONSSSSSSSS of it. i drove around all day from gas station to gas station trying to find it again, cant drive without it, ahah.

    your welcome.

So how aften are you adding the additive? I usually fill up in the SW at the 37th and 17th ave mohawk but I go right past the one on 32nd ave NE.

everytime i fill up. i always overdose it too. i buy those big 4l jugs of it. i think a whole jug is good for something like 300 gallons, lasts me about 6-8 tanks.
remember, always put it in before you fill up, it will mix better.

LOL ya that is a little bit of an overdose, I am going to have to start using it after I find out why I am only getting like 650km or so a tank in city (that is with a new MAF too).

i get 850km per tank with the vent trick. hard driving an upp chip.

maf's go on tdi's due to aftermarket air filter. dont tell me you installed one? i laugh at anyone with a tdi who has. its been proven nothing works better than the current intake setup in the tdi.

i just replace the filter every 8,000km.

also, i had my egr valve disabled since day one.

Nope no new filter just the stock one. I haven't done the vent mod yet because well I am lazy And it is not chipped yet. It maybe due to the fact that I have an emmo 2 rather then a newer 3. I think I might clean the intake too and see how that goes to improve things.

nah, immo2 doesnt matter. hey, want a euro cluster???

vent trick is simple, when you're filling up, and when it gets full, look inside the hole, on the left there will be a little notch, push that in with the filler, and fill it up some more, you can add another 4-6L.

Thanks again, Bart. That'll really save time for me now that I don't have to run from station to station to look for PS. It amazes me to hear that you get 850 km/tank in the city. My best ever was around 650km for city and it was in the summer. During winter, my average is around 500km for city driving. My TDI is still 100% stock but I'll Upsolute it someday.

Sounds like we both need to go and strip his car down and find out what the heck is wrong with ours
Maybe we just need to get morepower out of it then we will get better milage?
Serously though if anyone wants to help me clean my intake there might be a couple cold ones in it.

lol, get your intakes cleaned and disable egr, thats a start.

always keep the tdi above 2,000rpm. otherwise you bog it down. and so on.

i was on tdiclub.com for two years before i got my car. so you can say i did my homework.

Damn cann't say I studied for 2 years but I did hit that site before I bought the car. I checked the EGR not to long ago and it was actually pretty clean, the intake could be pretty bad still though. Did you remove the EGR via the deiselgeek product? or did oyu just turn it down with vag-com? I hear there is actually a lose of milage detuning the EGR but less intake clogging. I usually sit just above 2k but thanks for reafirming that. Need to get chipped too that would probley help with the "damn must go fast, hit the floor syndrom" I guess I will start using that additive too.

like i said above, had the egr disabled since day one just via vag. also, recently increased my iq to the max. and i do the vent trick, so that gets me an extra 100km, otherwise it would be 750 i would get. and i floor it constantly, once the engine is warm of course.

I have also visited tdiclub and vwvortex/tdi forum frequently but I haven't actually do anything with my TDI. Like you said, I wouldn't mind a showing hand on cleaning the intake. Bart and Stonewall, do you get smoke when your turbo kick in? Mine smokes at the begin of a hard acceleration when the rpm is around 1800. It very obvious at night with other car's headlight behind.

I try to take a trip out to Airdrie once a while just to get it rep up. But I haven't since late September. I had forgotten about the 2000 rpm issue, thanks for mention it.
