  • HI GUYS!!! Just entered the dub life!

    Hello VW fanatics,

I have just made the switch over from the japanese world to the german one. I've been a honda fanatic for my entire life and know them in and out. I just recently sold my JDM Subaru WRX that I had and saw a VW that caught my eye.

I just bought a 2002 VW jetta VR6 and am super interested to see how VW does things differently. I'll have pictures of the car when I pick it up so get some feedback on it.

I am curious as to what some common things that need to get changed on the cars are. I've seen that the coilpacks should get changed out and the upper timing chain should be replaced. (No idea what the upper timing chain is lol). As you probably can tell, i'm supe rnew to the VW scene so any info would be much appreciated. (Didn't even know the answer to the registration question "Something about vag" hahahaha)

Thankfully the coilpacks have been changed as of recent and i'm just waiting to get the car to see how under the hood is doin.

Thanks for all in input in advance.

    Armin

EDIT: Pictures up at the bottom

Yes! Another VR on the forum! I've got a 2000 jet vr6 12V, is yours a 12v or 24v? Easiest way to tell is 12v has visible spark plug wires and a 24v you need to take off some plastic bits to get to it.

Don't use my car as an example because I think I have had bad luck with it but so far this is what I have done for maintenance. Clutch, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, 2 serpentine belt ( I don't have a skid plate) belt tensioner, hydraulic lifters and the regular oil and filter change.

Yea I cant wait to start adding parts to it to see how much better it'll sound.

Yea it was the one on beyond. I saw it on kijiji first and thought, wtf???? why is this so cheap? something must be wrong?? went and checked it out and the car was in immaculate condition. The guy was super nice too

Yea thats the one that you saw on beyond. I'm going to be picking up the car on monday when i'm able to insure and register it. The entire car was clean but that's one thing i need to take a look at, the chains. The previous owner had done the coilpacks, brakes, water pump. It drives so well too. Cant wait to get it!

hahahahahahahaha.....HONDA FOR LIFE! hahaha like i said, honda was what i grew up with an my civic was the best little car i ever drove. Wasn't as fast at the subaru but this car handled like a dream!

I'm gonna have pictures up on monday, hoping calgary weather doesn't fu** me when i go to the car wash.

Yea the subaru was unreal. The motor was a stock EJ20 with a couple of after market bits (aftermarket BOV, full metal TMIC etc.) but the best thing about it was the type RA tranny. The gear ratios were so short that it accelerated like mad. I raced G35's, bmw 330's and......civics,hahah, and they couldn't keep up with me. I loved the car!

I've been reading up on a few different websites that the VR6 motor is a tank. I wanna start out with the basic so CAI, exhaust, suspension and then if it's possible....VR6"T". Turbo the car. If i'm able to manage with school and work, i'm gonna try to build this car and make it hit 300 whp. Shouldn't be too tough but it's high hopes for me as of now.

I do have some more questions about the VW. Where do you guys buy parts? i've seen that theirs concept 1 for some parts and tunedub is where a lot of my friends take there cars to. Wondering where to start to get the CAI and Fog lights AND I'm looking for the fog light switch that just goes into where the old light switch is. The pull out type one.

Thanks a lot for the awesome welcome everyone. Gonna be happy to come here and ask a lot of question

Concept 1 or online somewhere mostly, I probably get 60% of my stuff from ecstuning.com. Just look around first, shipping can be a bit nuts sometimes but for some things, or if you're buying a few things at once, ECS can be much cheaper than local.

Vwvortex.com is a good resource for most of what you need to know, but heads up, most of the people their are extremely moronic
