mkIV fender liners

is anyone running with out fenderliners that drives the car in winter? if so did you undercoat or do anything after fenderliner was removed?

I am taking mine out and using that rubberized spray undercoating for the summers and then I am going to just put the fender liners back in the wintertime to prevent my smic and other stuff from getting ripped apart from gravel and snow. I know colin runs his gli without them but its not a winter car

I'm in need of a driver's side front golf fender liner (will check passenger when I get home). If anyone has a spare kicking around or can suggest somewhere other than the stealership to pick on up I'd like to know. Are the Jetta and Golf liners the same?
