From what I understand the car begins its 12 year warranty the day you take delivery you could always use your vin at the dealer to figure that out.

        Re: Rust issues

I've thought about how to tackle this (the wet mud buildup) but I think it's impossible because I believe that hidden place is actually the bottom end of a water drainage channel from the windshield cowl, down the inside of the fender to exit at the panel gap between the bottom of the fender and the top of the rocker panel. You can never get it dry, and it will never dry out by itself because there's very little air circulation there. All I try to do is prevent the mud buildup, thinking just a film of water (as opposed to three inches of soggy mud) won't get through the paint/undercoat. I know it will eventually, but perhaps not for a long time with this maintenance routine.

And isn't the VW warranty a perforation warranty (it must be rusted through) not a surface rust warranty? I'll have to check my manual.

Interesting, I'll be pursuing that route as well. If not, front fenders for mk4's aren't that expensive. Group buy from ecs?

            Re: Rust issues

With Audi the rust has to go all the way through the panel and basically make a hole... (Full perforation)
I recently some some aftermarket fenders online for my S4 for $60 each unpainted.. WAY cheaper then dealing with any other issues.

Check here before ordering through ECS... they may not be OEM, but aftermarket copies.

Do what I did, cut two inches off the bottom of the fender liner there, so rather than just sitting in there, it just runs out, no build up, no rust.

well looks like its too late for mine. i went to sand it a bit to paint. Just to stop it from bleeding over into the good paint until i got all the supplies together. but as i was sanding it i saw a small hole and just a little pressure from my finger it became bigger. up until Jan the paint was fine. its been eating away from the inside when one day a whole paint flake fell off. time for new fenders now. on another note. last nite after my daily ritual i went to flush......and Nothing! i took the lid off and the CHAIN WAS RUSTED! so rusted it broke in pieces. give me a break rust! Mother @$#%&^.

ECS doesn't carry OEM ones anymore I guess, they have their own that are $50 each.

I just hate doing bodywork, I'd rather just replace the panel if possible.

                          Edit; Holy hell nevermind.
