peter im sorry to bring this up, but i have to, your VR6, wow.. she sounded amazing, do you think its possible to get that sound in a 4 banger? to be honest i have no clue..
but this topic brings back memories of that short viset we had here just before your accident.. if u can find somthing like that again that would be amazing..
and peter,... your VR6 still is in my heart, literaly.. i probibly was the last NVD member besides you to see it, and that means alot to me she was special..
Soon to be: SOMTHING OTHER THEN A GOD DAMED BEETLE!!!! for crying out loud..
I like the way my car sounds with the SS cat and Carb CAI, nice and quiet when you are just driving cas, but when you stomp on her,... the exhaust is very deep & throaty and the CAI is also pretty loud, it tends to turn some heads
To do a 3 inch turbo back, you'll have to change your cat to really get the most out of that set up, otherwise your cat will be your bottle neck. 3 inch will be louder probably, depending on the muffler and/or if you run a resonator inline as well. Didn't sean have difficulties fitting the 3 inch DP? Running a 3 inch should also help turbo lag and boost drop off too when you shift.
2.5 will be noticable from the cat back and still retain some of the nice sound level without being too overbearing. Unless you want overbearing.
My pick would be the Remus, that's my favorite, however, I 've heard there are issues with longevity. but they're quiet.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to emulate the sound of a 6 cylinder from a 4 banger. 6's will always have that nice smooth engine sound while 4's will still have the high winding "whine" type noise. The noise you heard (from the E36)wasn't really from the exhaust of the car but rather the engine itself. By putting things like intakes on it reduces the noise suppression of the factory hoses and plumbing allowing more resonance and cylnder echo that makes up that sweet sound.
Long post. Sorry.

not too sure if this is correct: If you increase the size of you exhaust (less backpressure) you will lose the bottom end power, but if you've done some breathing mods also there should be an increase in the higher RPM range????

I thnk for the most part, that applies mainly to NA cars. With turbo cars, the key is the turbo and how you can make it work easier. The reason you can go with big exhaust south of the turbo is because the turbo will always be a constant amount of backpreasure. So freeing it up after will allow it to spin easier and you get more power.

Too bad there is no way that 1.8T can sound like VR6 (VR6 sounds so sexy!!) Since the engine on both cars are totally different, one is a 6 cylinder and the other one is a four banger. I suggest the supersprint race system which is 2.5 inch. I would not suggest 3 inch unless you are running something like a APR stage 3 or something. I have the supersprint and I love the sound, it is subtle but when you punch on it.. wOW!!
