  • Need opinion on oil leak by turbo - Pics included

posted this on Beyond, but probably get better response here.

For the past week or two I have noticed a lack of boost in my mkv 2.0t, finally yesterday it was confirmed when the CEL came on P0299 -"Turbocharger under boosting" - After reading a few threads I decided my first step was to check the Diverter Valve. Took it out and to no surprise it was toast, however I found a bunch of oil around the turbo, and DV, and it was inside the DV as well.

Want to know what some opinions are as to the serverity of this. There is no other leaking oil that I can see, so maybe a oil line going in? Below is a few pics before and after removal to give you an idea of how much is there.

EDIT: Anyone selling a Forge DV?? haha

The only real thing i could suggest is use some good degreaser, clean everything really good, go for a short drive, check for the leak, dont see anything, drive further, check again, its hard to tell where some of these leaks come from with air blowing through the engine bay spaying oil everywhere.

I'm not familiar with where common leaks are on the 2.0T, hopefully someone else can chime in? Have you looked on vortex?

Check to make sure your PVC's are not blown. Is there oil in your intake? Or coming out of your oil cap? What year?

"There are a few people I know including myself that have had leaks from that area thinking it was the turbo or oil line to the turbo I had oil on diverter valve and axle and turbo it ended up being my cam seal, the oil would get all over the place down there. "

              wow thanks for the help

Anyways I ordered the newest model DV from VW today, still doesn,t explain the oil in the DV or on everything. Guess I will check the pcv and lines first. Oh and it is a 06 Jetta.

              Thanks again!

I would say to start by cleaning up everything and then stop and look at what is leaking every once and awhile.

                Prob a little late but I have the "06H 145 710 D" in stock

I little bit of oil in the intake tract is normal, so that explains it being on the DV. As for the other leak I have no idea

ur probs leaking at the oil drain on the turbo. there is so much vibration on the turbo that the little gasket bits the shed. its not a big deal. all my turbo'd cars end up like that eventually.

like pat said, oil in the inlet is okay.

also, if you are dripping oil down the back of the engine from the pcv, then ask yourself why you still have a pcv? save yourself the chance of detonation and decrease crankcase pressure by setting up a vented catch can. your engine will be a happy mofo yo.

if your turbo was super duper party pooper, you'd notice a lot of smoke. ask trippleg, he knows .. but if it is external and drippin aorund, don't fret.

oh one more thang yo... a few drops of oil always look worse than it actually is. oils is magical and expands and gets everywhere, then dirt sticks to it. the mroe dirt, the worse it looks. ur turbo looks cleaner than all of my turbos
