  • New Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet

VW has released a set of photos and a few details for the upcoming 2012 Golf Cabriolet model ahead of its Geneva premiere.

The new Golf Cabriolet features design changes from the standard Golf model including a new rear end styling, a more sloped front windshield and a lower profile roof line. The next Golf Cabriolet will come with LED rear taillights like on the Golf GTI model and safety features such as the automatically deploying roll-over bar, side head/thorax airbags and a knee airbag for the driver. The newly developed soft-top roof can be opened or closed at speeds up to 30 km/h (18.7 mph).

VW will offer an array of engine options on the Golf Cabrio ranging in output from 105 bhp (77 kW / 105 PS) to 207 bhp (155 kW / 210 PS). The DSG double-clutch gearbox will be offered on most power plant variants while the 1.6 liter TDI (105 bhp) with BlueMotion technology offers one of the best fuel-economy figures around - 4.4 liters/100 km (64 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 117 g/km.

Prices in Germany for the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet will start at €23,625.

Love the seats, love the colour, love the models in the last pic, but I think it looks better with the top up.

I'm pretty sure it's just the lighting in the pic. If they actually did pink they are definitely limiting who would purchase this car by 50%.

              It's an Eos!

              Do not want.

Actually surprised there is even a market for a car like this. Honestly this is the worst buy I can imagine.

                    Re: New Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet

Is the EOS disappearing? I think the EOS is nicer and more unique with the hard top. Maybe this is much cheaper?

Doesn't look bad with the top up. Not sure how there can be "no market" looking at all the EOS/Cabrios/Beetle convertibles, Mini convertibles, C30's that you see around town all the time.

                      Re: New Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet

Personally I think it looks great and pretty hot with the roof up which is not the most common with soft top convertibles. I would think this is a less premium Cabrio than the Eos and comparing German prices this new Golf Cabrio has a base price of about 18% (4,300 euros) less than the base Eos, so perhaps in different markets. Maybe in North America it will not work as well, but I think cheap and convertible is still usually a good vehicle to have in a manufacturers line up, my only concern is those MK6 LED headlights, going to be showing up in a lot of Golf/GTIs I am guessing sooner than later :(

Wouldn't that put it double parked? Or do you have the cabby parked off the street?
