  • Wrapping Rims in Matte Black Vinyl

Hey guys, I came across this on youtube and thought it could be a fun project for the summer. Do any of you guys have any experience with this? What I'm worried about is if while I'm driving if a rock gets flung at the wheel, will the vinyl actually peel off?

Any thing else worth noting before I would actually do something like this? Thanks

i'd try plastidip before i'd try vinyl. im pretty sure you can pull the plastidip off too.

agreed, that's a pretty cool idea, but I think it would only work in Florida like areas.......... our salt and gravel would eat/peal the back of those off in a week

            1. Doesn't even look that good when they're done
            2. Looks like it takes forever
            3. Won't hold up to the sand and gravel on our roads
            4. No idea if brake dust will eat vinyl?

1: They look decent, just the barrels should have been done too
2: Im sure it takes less time than sanding, prepping and painting wheels
3: The guys comments on the video say that its been holding up just fine, In the summer i think they would be great
4: This could be a problem, yes.

im thinking of trying it on a hub cap or a steal wheel this summer when i actually have time and see how banged up it gets after a few days of driving.. if i do ill take pictures and post them for sure.

maybe ill wrap one wheel in vinyl and try plastidip on another wheel..see which one holds up best after a few days of regular driving.
