Golf VII BlueMotion



Volkswagen declares that the BlueMotion version of the recently introduced Golf VII generation is the most economical version yet. Powered by a new 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter TDI engine with 110 HP (81 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm), the new Golf VII BlueMotion will be capable of having a fuel consumption of only 3.2 liters / 100 km (73 mpg US / 88 mpg UK).

The Germans were able to lower the car’s fuel consumption by 15 percent thanks to a lightweight design that has lowered the curb weight of the chassis by 26 kg (57 lbs) and also the superstructure weight by another 37 kg (82 lbs). There were also some engine-related changes, installing super low-rolling resistance tires with higher air pressure and longer gear ratios for the five-speed manual transmission. There’s also the stop/start system and the battery regeneration mode.

Standard equipment includes air conditioning system, daytime running lights, electric door mirrors, electric windows and a height adjustable driver’s seat, among other equipment. These are the goodies offered for the base Trendline model, while the more expensive Comfortline variant gets 16-inch alloys, different instrument cluster, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear shift grip, as well as front comfort seats with lumbar supports.

I'm in the market for one. Can't wait to see the price drop as a result of the MQB platform and Mexican assembly. I'm sure VW will pass all these savings on to the customer

I hope that's sarcasm...

I doubt there would be much of a price drop. From what I read in the article that VW released about the MQB platform, is that the money saved will be put into research and development.

I like the look of the wagon compared to the Golf and GTI.
