Rob Daddy's "Hooligan" - MK4 R32 in Deep Blue Pearl Mommy's "Gran Turismo" - E70 X5M in Black Sapphire Metallic GONE... BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: The Family "Muscle Car" - B7 RS4 in Misano Red - Dad's 20th Anniversary "Wanna-be R32" GTi
Well obviously just a mule at this point but yes the MK6 could be shorter lifespan but with an introduction not till 2012/2013 and then the usual wait till it hits our shores I would think we would not see a MKVII till 2014 or 2015 model years.

Rear drum brakes?
I figured it was coming, it will likely be a cheapened model. My bet is the cheap jetta will kill the golf sales as people will not want to pay more for a smaller car (although much nicer).
Name: Brent
His: '04 TDI Golf Mods: None If it's smoken it ain't broken
Family: '15 Jetta Sportwagon
Fun car: '92 Blue Karmann Crabby Cabby Mods: Coils, front and rear swaybars, LED interior lights and some other old things.
I honestly don't find the golf any nicer than my jetta, they're basically the same car now, one with a trunk and one with a hatch. I would have purchased a golf if I didn't need the trunk space. We looked at quite a few CPO, but the jetta won due to trunk space. Girlfriend will probably buy a golf though, when we get a second car, she loves them.

"The all-important GTI is rumoured to be powered by a 260bhp, It will be unveiled at the Paris show in September before reaching showrooms early next year."
We are getting closer and closer to the launch of the highly anticipated seventh generation Volkswagen Golf. It will be unveiled on September 4th and now we know that the German automaker has managed to shave off 100 kg (220 lb) compared to the Golf VI by using stronger steel for minimizing the metal content, which will result in a 23 percent lower fuel consumption and 13.9 percent less CO2 emissions.
These new materials along with the related production processes are part of the VW Group’s MQB modular manufacturing system that will be used for no less than 40 small to mid-sized models, representing 3.5 million vehicles, according to an official statement made by VW at its base in Wolfsburg, Germany.
By implementing this shared architecture, the German automaker estimates a 20 percent reduction of production costs, 20 percent lower one-time expenses and also a 30 percent shorter manufacturing time. With the savings made, Volkswagen will use the money for developing new models and also upgrading the in-car entertainment systems.
Even though it will be lighter than the current Golf VI, the new model will be 56 mm longer, 13 mm wider and 28 mm lower, measuring 4255 mm in length, 1799 mm in width and 1452 mm in height. In addition, the wheelbase will be 59 mm longer, while the track widths will be 8 mm longer at front and 6 mm at the back. As a result, expect a 15 mm improvement in legroom, 31 mm more shoulder room in the front and 30 mm for the passengers sitting in the back. The Golf VII is going to provide an additional 22 mm (front) / 20 mm (rear) elbow room.
It will also have a 30-liter larger boot, for a grand total of 380 liters, while the overall width of the floor is going to be 228 mm bigger than before, standing at 1,272 mm. The loading lip will sit at 685 mm (17 mm less than before) so loading the car will be easier, while the boot's aperture width has increased to 1023 mm (up by 47 mm).
The center console is going to be bigger than before since the Golf VII will get a new electronic parking brake that will free significant room in that area. VW has also mentioned that in standard equipment levels the new Golf will be 12 kg lighter (7 kg mainly due to new seat design and 3 kg from a new electrical wiring loom). This means that the base model will have a curb weight of just 1,050 kg (2314 lb).
Ulrich Hackenberg who is VW’s head of development confirmed that the Golf VII will feature a progressive steering system that will provide various levels of assistance and also five different driving profiles: Eco, Sport, Normal, Individual and Comfort.
For now, we don’t have complete details about the engine lineup, but we do know that it will be offered with a 4-cylinder, 1.4-liter turbocharged, direct-injection gasoline unit that benefits from cylinder deactivation and pumps out 138 hp (103 kW / 140 PS). Mated to the latest version of the firm’s 7-speed dual clutch transmission, it will return 58.9 mpg-UK (4.8l/100km) on the European combined cycle, while CO2 emissions will be only 112 g/km.
Towards the end of next month, Volkswagen will preview the hotter GTi version at the Paris Motor Show that is expected to get an updated version of Audi’s 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injection gasoline engine with 222 hp (165 kW / 225 PS).
