I'm kinda excited to see what ends up happening with the Golf RS. Apparently it's supposed to use the 2.5T from the TT-RS. Even if they do make it, we probably won't get it here

I think it looks like a good evolutionary step and seems the big changes are in the details more than the looks, definitely look forward to the GTI and seeing this in person.



The interior is a little more driver oriented and looks to be still something that you would not expect in a mid-range hatchback!

Volkswagen is reportedly developing a lightweight variant of the Golf GTI.

Tentatively dubbed the Carbon GTI, the model could feature aluminum components as well as a carbon fiber roof and hood. This could enable the car to be 200 kg (441 lbs) lighter than the current GTI.

To help justify the development costs, the lightweight construction will also be used on the Golf hybrid and electric vehicle.

Like the standard GTI, the Carbon is expected to use a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine with 225 PS (166 kW / 222 hp). This could enable the lightweight model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than six seconds. We can also expect a new steering system and a VAQ front differential for improved handling.

If everything pans out, the Carbon GTI could be launched in 2014 to celebrate the Golf's 40th anniversary.
