  • Help - Gorilla Wheel Lock Key

So I was removing my rear wheel to do the brakes and the tool to remove the Gorilla \wheel locks split.

Just hoping there is an off chance that someone here has one before I have to order one.

    It looks like this

    1719SD
    17mm & 3/4" Hex

Re: Help - Gorilla Wheel Lock Key

On my 98 Beetle with stock wheels, I'm more afraid of the monkeys at the tire shop wrecking the tool and/or the lug-bolt. So I got four more stock wheel bolts and removed the locking things.

I still have the locking things if you want them. They should fit all the stock wheels, and maybe even some aftermarket wheels. PM me if you want them, it'll be less to ship them to you than the Gorilla tool.

    Jiggs.

Wheel Plus in edmonton has the gorilla keys, their number is 780-435-0404.
If you use a 17mm 6 point socket very carefully, you can easily get them off, I had to do it once.

I had one snap on me, talk to Popp at matrix or Tirebob.

Re: Help - Gorilla Wheel Lock Key

The gorilla keys are notorious for cracking and splitting, made of cheap metals. I have had some luck with 11/16" sockets that will fit on most of their smaller lugs.
If you dont have any luck PM and you can try what we have laying around.

Thanks guys, those are all helpful.

For sure they are made of some pretty rinky-dink material.

I am trying to find a machine shop or welder that can weld the crack and then put a peice of tubing around the outside & weld it on there so this does not happen again.

That metal is like a pop can when it is cold.
