  • coolant temperature? level? warning light

    Hi guys,

Got the red coolant warning light on the GTI this weekend, goes away again once the engine warms up a touch, done some reading in the vortex and sounds like its just coolant shrinkage, ive got some coolant in the garage so gonna top it up but just wondered if someone could tell me what other things that light could stand for? (red thermometer in water light) just in case.

    cheers
    Eric..

Had this problem in the gli for a little while, just topped the overflow to the minimum or even a little more while it was cold and was good to go, haven't had a problem since.

It's the coolant level warning light. It will go off during the winter sometimes, just add some coolant and you are all good to go.

agreed with above two posts. It is because G12 contracts quite a bit with the cold. Refill it to the min mark as suggested

If you haven't done it already ensure that you do not use tap water when mixing the g12, use demineralized water, tap water contains "minerals" (aka ions) that can promote corrosion, g12 does have corrosion inhibitors but its best to still use demineralized water.

Thanks for the comments, yup i guess it was just the level, i put a bit more back in and it seems to have stopped the light so thats all good.

              Cheers guys
