I find that incredibly surprising. There must be some sort of kick back from VW to supplement that.

I love playing the admin fee game with the salesman when it is a cash deal. They tell you all the things they have to do. Then I say "wow, how long does that take?" They usually reply "Don't worry, it's about 15 or 20 minutes". Then I say "Then you're charging me the equivalent of $600 an hour?" and watch them backtrack. It's no wonder car salesmen are right down there with politicians on the respect scale.

Though I agree, I don't really think to many salesmen are getting rich selling cars these days. The bread and butter of the business seems to be the service side, and in the end it's really only the owner that is profiting.

Believe me.. unless you're selling 20+ cars a month, you're not getting rich. As for the Admin fee, the salesman gets nothing from that. S/he simply has to defend it. As for the time the finance manager spends on each deal.. the time the client spends with him is anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours.. but it's the work that has to be completed in the background that takes hours.

There is some kickback from VW or Toyota or Honda.. or whatever brand you're selling. However, it is there to supplement the interest paid on the cars while they are on the lot and to cover costs like lot damage etc... I'm not saying there aren't cars that have any profit, but it's shocking when you see the actual invoice. In 2006 the average full price gross profit was about 10% of the purchase price. I would say that now, in the volume lineups (Jetta, Civic, Corolla etc..) it averages closer to about 4-6%.

The canadian R's have the ability to defeat the ESP. The system works like the new S4. Hit button once and it defeats the ASR. Hold the button down for 5 seconds and the ESP is defeated. Haven't played with the car in the snow however to see if it 100% defeats the ESP however its more than what the US version does anyways!

I was told that this method worked on the 2012 GTI as well and indeed it seems to do something but I've since read that ESP is still actually on, it just removes the light from the dash? Unsure if its different on the Golf R.

i can tell you on the ttrs you can definitely turn the esp off completely hahaha

i dont know about the golf r, but it looked like in the vid it was limiting him pretty bad on the corners, in the tt if you push esp once it puts the esp into a sport mode, which lets you drift at pretty good angles (actually encourages you too) and do hard launches, it only steps in if you are about to over do it this maybe saved me once already lol i think its setup very very well, so i never turn esp completely off unless maybe for parking lot donuts in the snow?

i would think apr can fix the esp completely off with a chip though...

You can most definitely turn off ESP completely in the canadian golf R. Here's how -- push esp button once, watch display.. it will say ASR or traction control off... then push it again and then push and hold it for 5-10 seconds untill you hear the beep and both ESP and ASR will be off.
