  • Re: VW Golf R - An Update from C&D

Actually, A dealer is allowed to sell it for anything they want, which, unscrupulous as it is... does happen. There is one Dealer I know of -- no names mentioned -- that is selling the golf R's for $2500 over MSRP. The Dodge dealers have been notorious for jacking the price on things like the Challenger SRT8. It's not cool.. but it does happen. There's always dealer fees to contend with as well.

With reference to the pricing that all of you see on vw.ca -- the pricing defaults to Ontario Tax. So, VW shows a total price including 12% HST. So, the pricing that would normally work out would be MSRP plus dealer fees and taxes -- most dealers have fees in the $700-$1200 range. So, take you're $41040 and add about $1000 and then add GST and you will be in the ballpark.

I think it comes down to the wording for the extra money, can easily build that stuff into dealer fees probably with out much issue.

I think that in either Manitoba or Ontario, it's illegal to have Administration fees. However, I don't believe there's a law about any other fees -- like dealer prep or setup etc..

I picked mine up yesterday at about 3:00 and have been giddy since.

The guys at 5th Ave were also great. They had a slam dunk guaranteed sale and they still went out of their way to be helpful.

I've had a few other dubbers either haul ass up the road or get on the brakes and see if it was an R. One guy screamed out the window of his MKIV GTI while we were on Glenmore "THATS F-N AWESOME MAN!" and then wanted to race.

I had some EVO guy wave me over so he could take a look. I had an 08 STI and this car may not be as quick(close though) but the handling is spot on. The STI needed sways front and rear before I lost the wallow understeer, the Golf gets the ass end out just enough...this is on all seasons cold road. Gimme some PSS's and some heat and she's going to be one sticky biotch.

Keep the posts coming on input, so far my grade is A+.

                            What is the dealer fee?

I don't understand what it is for, I am being charged for the privilege to buy something?

Some dealer fees are simply to increase Gross Profit and others are justifiable. The Administration fee is charged out to pay the finance manager for his work. Even if you just pay cash for the car, the finance manager still has to arrange insurance, check carproof's, check for leins, Clear any leins, Arrange delivery, ensure that any necessary work to the car is completed on time etc...

The biggest problem is that the import manufacturer's have decreased front end gross profits to such an extreme over the past 5-10 years that the dealers are forced to add a little bit to the front. As an example, the front end gross profit on a 2012 jetta 2.0 trendline is a hair over $600. So, without dealer fees... you can see that there just isn't any profit to be had.
