Mk1 w/ swapped 1.8t questions

I am possibly looking at buying a mk1 with a 1.8t swapped into it and was wondering if you guys could help me with some insight. I guess what I'm really wondering is about reliability and problems (gremlins) that could occur and how hard they would be to fix.

I am familiar with the 1.8t but I have never had a mk1. So if anyone has any thoughts or things I should look for or ask it would be greatly appreciated.

That would likely be an aeb motor and by the looks of it a 020 tranny. So plan on blowing up at least one 020 a year as they are meant to handle about 100hp max. The dash looks like ass as he only used the upper portion of a cabby and not the lower knee bar. The price isn't that bad since the body looks solid but you are going to want to do a 02j and hydro clutch swap to make it reliable.

Might be a pain to get an oop on it with the mods (rear axle) unless you got an in with someone Would be a fun car MK1 are like little go carts to drive.

if you replace the tranny you should swap a 6 speed into it!!!

scirocco 100mm axles
ce2 fusebox so stereo is cake to install
custom fit exhaust
apr flashed ecu
car has sotrage insurance till march 31st
30 year old car , sure there is bondo
glass is mint


I don't need an OOP inspection.... I'm just not sure if I would be getting in over my head with the swap, its my only real concern.... this would purely be a summer toy.

i know the guy who put this car together. it wasn't a hack job. i haven't heard much about him or it since it got put together, so i cant comment on how reliable its been.

Looks like a pretty soils car. From the pictures looks like it's done right too. Even has the Kool 225 tt intake on it. I think he lowered the price too. Wants 5500 now I think. Worth a look for sure.
