a steel plate? wow...that'll sure protect your oilpan! -- That'll make oil changes much more interesting, eh? Good luck getting the filter out
-- how much does that thing weigh?

God, I can barely get in there to get the oil filter off now.

As far as skid plate goes, it might be cheaper just to have something fabricated out of aluminum. I know a couple guys that have done that for RallyX, but not on VWs. Mind you, they may have done some drilling in order to mount it.

dg has a kit for draining oil, so you dont need to remove the plate, only on vr6's.

Autobraun has the whole thing for $340.00. Call vince at 780-448-9080. I saw them and they are nicely built. I am getting one for my next car or the current one if it doesn't sell.

U guys sure there's one for the 1.8? I thought it was TDI and another for the VR.

I busted my pan already before I was even lowered on a minor pothole.

500 bucks for a new one + time getting towed + risk of seizing engine > the weight increase.

Well Bart I checked with my guy and I can get the OEM Skid for around 360. He said that your price is cheaper than employee pricing.
