  • Should I buy a Corrado...

Been looking at a corrado, seems to be well looked after and in really good shape, just not sure if I want to pull the pin and buy it. I think I'm a little scared of what could go wrong.

    Any thoughts??

Re: Should I buy a Corrado...

I still love Corrados, I had a G60 as a daily driver and loved it but I had some major issues which a former member from here helped me out a lot with.

If I could get a 94/95 Canadian Corrado (no stupid auto seatbelts) that was well looked after I'd be really tempted to buy it and keep it as something I drive occasionally maybe even as a daily when the weather was decent.

As a daily on a tight budget, I'd be cautious, just my opinion though.

Most people that like to talk about Corrados being crap have never owned one, just like I talk about the B5 S4 being a piece of crap but I have never owned one.

i love corrado's, they are amazing cars. they look good, and with the VR6 are a potent car.
the problem with the corrado is they took pieces from other cars, which worked fine, put them all together, and then you were left with a car with all kinds of issues.
If you buy a corrado VR6 and expect the same reliability as a GTi VR6, you're going to hate yourself.

if you understand the quirks of the cars, and are prepared to a) pay for them, and b) deal with them, then it will be a sick car.

Re: Should I buy a Corrado...

If it's a VR6, I think as long as you get one that's been well maintained, you don't have anything to worry about (no more so than with any other vdub). I've owned 2 VR6 and 1 G60 corrado, and one other G60 VW. Still have a VR6 (7yrs and 65k later) and it's been incredibly reliable to me. Any problem that's happened on it has been my fault. The G60's - I can't speak in the same light. The cars were fine, but the engine is a heap of sh!t. They're moody bitches that decide to run good when they feel like it, and they're matted to an expensive grenade that will eventually blow (or at least need a very expensive rebuild). Super fun engines in Stage 4 trim, but I'd never own one again.

That being said, if it's not looked after, run! That's where the Corrado's get a bad rap. 90% of them are owned by kids that either a) bag the living sh!t out of them b) don't put a penny into them c) total them off, and most often d) a,b, then eventually c.

I'd say go for it if it's in good shape and at a good price. You own live once, right?
