  • Dead keyless remote

I've had mine for only 7 months or so and the battery died this morning. I'm not sure if I had the button pushed while in my pocket or maybe I have a bad remote but I'm just curious if anybody else has had this issue.

I had both my remotes go dead, and they were both washed 2 or 3 times each. I would replace the batteries, blow out all the fluff in there, and give it a shot. Seemed to do the trick for me.

Hmmm.. You washed them you say? I did go skiing on the weekend and my keys did get wet. Not like putting them through the wash though. I'll try changing the battery. The little led doesn't light up when I push the buttons right now.

Your valet key? My valet key doesn't have a remote.

Hold it under your chin, or maybe try a parabolic key chain.

              my remote's suck.

A new battery lasts half a year, and then I have to be within 10 feet of the car before they work. My car is 2.5 years old, and I'm on my 3rd battery for my remote. It's not too bad, but a few buds of mine with AWD's have wicked range on their remotes and the battery's last forever!

When I was parking outside at work, I could lock/unlock the car from my 9th floor office. I've been using the same remote for over 3 years now and have never changed the battery. AWD would rule if races somehow involved unlocking your car from a distance.

thats cuz they have the AM transmitter like me, unlike some of you FM people. lol.

its one of those "un-printed" options.

Exact thought that crossed my mind when I found out my remote didn't work.

For the guys with Jettas and the blank lock, you could stash your spare remote in a very hard to get at place in your trunk, where no thief would look so when you get locked out, you can open the trunk with your dead key, retrieve you well hidden remote, and unlock the doors.

May not be the best I idea, and you run the risk that someone would find it if they broke into your trunk, but from my experience with car theives, they are not going through the entire car, they are looking for stereo gear, and what they can grab in a short amount of time.

                          Re: Dead keyless remote

So I replaced the battery, and all is good now. Still not sure why it died so quickly.

FYI, the battery is a CR2032 and I got it from London Drugs for $5. Simple 1 minute replacement. I heard the dealer charges a full hour for this.
