  • Battery pad

I don't care how many CCA your battery has you are just killing it trying to start your car when it is this cold. Last year's cold snap I bought a 60W battery pad from Gregg Distributors to keep the battery toasty warm. No problems yet this year.

    Re: Battery pad

I have been thinking about getting one, since my battery alone was over $200 I think I would like it to last a while.

      Re: Battery pad

I can attest that it works well. My battery is about 6 years old and it doesn't take to the cold well anymore. The 60 watts enough to keep it from freezing. Originally bought a battery blanket from Crappy Tire but it wont fit inside the battery cover in the MKIV. I just sits underneath the battery.

yea last year during the cold snap my brother's battery froze and when we brought it into the garage it looked like it was going to burst.

so the one you bought does it sit under the battery? how thick is it? I'm just wondering as on the VR at least there isn't much extra room in that plastic casing.

I don't think it is more than 3-4mm (1/4") thick.

haha, luunta might just become as infamous as lee keller in the vw scene. anyways, darkman is this pad something you leave plugged in overnight or do you have it on a timer/plug it in, in the morning before you leave?

At home I have a timer that goes on at 4:00am and off at 7:00am. I usually leave between 6:30-7:00am. At work I just leave it plugged directly in. Having said that it may be -30 tonight so I think I will forgo the timer for one night.

only WEAK battery can freeze . a charged one or one in good cond will not freeze instead of putting one more fire hazard to your car , get a good battery
