Re: MKV: Block Heater vs Inline Heater
I run a coolant circulator in my mk4 2L. I heard they're intended for diesels, but put one in anyways. I leave it plugged in as long as i want. It just circulates the coolant and keeps it a few degrees above freezing. The car heats up much faster and car starts without a hitch at -40 or colder. It took about an hour to install so not to bad.
Hope this helps

Re: MKV: Block Heater vs Inline Heater
I would say use an inline, just saves the chances of you blowing a block heater out down the road, not that this is a high chance but it has happened to me a couple times. plus it should be a lot easier to install and replace an inline heater.

Re: MKV: Block Heater vs Inline Heater
Are you sure it is a circulating heater? None of the kits I have seen are circulating just normal inline.Originally posted by Bucky View PostI run a coolant circulator in my mk4 2L. I heard they're intended for diesels, but put one in anyways.
I say always go inline. If it is near the oil cooler you get the added boost of a little bit warmer oil.Name: Brent

Re: MKV: Block Heater vs Inline Heater
Whether its a TDI or not, I wouldn't do an oil pan heater...chance of burning up your car! I just ordered a frost heater for $155.00, and its super easy to install! $400 to purchase and have it installed is ludicrous for an inline, I was quoted 400 for the oil pan heater from nthland VW!Hers 2009 Audi A4 6sp manual

Re: MKV: Block Heater vs Inline Heater
You can make your own "Frost Heater Kit" for around $75. Crappy Tire et al sells the 1000 watt and 1500 watt heaters (you need the one without the check ball). You can fab up a hose or buy one from an early 80s Ford Mustang (heater host) that is premolded perfectly. I have the part numbers and instructions I pulled off the net if anybody needs them.2004 VW Jetta TDI Sport

A DIY section would be a great add to the site...what does everyone think? Maybe we can start a thread on a do it yourself section.
