i called a couple reputable shops.its not so much that they said it was hard, but that they cant guarantee the metal shavings not falling in. and they recommended taking the engine head off as well to helicoil plus it would be expensive. i don't want to pay to get the car towed to the shop on top of that. from what i've priced out, head gasket kit is 140, head bolts 50, from pick and pull junk yard a used head is 60. plus i get practice if i pull that used one and the experience from this attempt. i actually look forward to it.

Also bring the cylinder up to the top before drilling and vacuum the shavings out of the cylinder. This will require some "Macgyvering" to make an attachment that you can attach to the end of your household vacuum cleaner.

Don't forget about a timing belt and tensioner, exhaust manifold and intake gaskets. And since your going to have to take off the power steering belt and Alt belt, you mind as well replace those too. So now you in for over 300 bucks and a but load of work. And just remember that sure you can get a used head at the junkers, but what if its a bad one? Sure its warrentied and you can get another one for free, but then the head gasket and bolts are garbage and would have to purchase new **** again. Not to mention all that work again. IDK...I'm just sayin it might not be worth it. For 1 hour worth of work to heli-coil it, I would pik that route myself, but good luck with which ever you decide.

the timing belt, tensioner and alt belt only have 40k on it. should be good still.

              Re: 2.0 Engine head removal

Finally finished putting the head back on today and now the car seems to be running good. decided to go with bringing the head to a shop to re thread. charged 50 dollars. Thanks to Natty for the gasket kit and head bolts. Had to buy this from C1 to get them off. the Triple square wouldn't fit. a large hex bit will work as well but for torquing i wanted the right tool and it was only 10 bucks.
