I can not believe that they have not been able to track this down yet....if you are hearing bubbles it means you have air in the system....has to be pump, lines or injectors....were else could air be getting into the system from?
well, several fuel lines are replaced, and the rear pump/sender unit is replaced and I replaced the filter and T. They will get to it by elimination if nothing else .

Well, strange results today. SCFC was able to replicate the issue but not find the cause. Got on with the VW Canada service hotline and for whatever reason the guys in Ontario decided I need a starter... Super strange diagnosis in my opinion, and I got the feeling the guys at SCFC were wondering WTF too. Either way, it sounds like they have to follow through, so I'll get a new starter. After that, I'm fairly certain I'll have to book it in again...
I'll have a new car by the time I'm done here...
They've been friendly though, and good at keeping me up to date on what they are up to. Pain in the but that the car isn't fixed, but at least they've been good to deal with.

They should do voltage dropchecks on the system.
It probably needs a starter due to excessive cranking.
Ask if the tech is certified for diesel repairs? Is it the same tech looking at it?

the excessive cranking could be why it needs a new starter, but I don't think a new starter will stop the excessive cranking.... we'll see I guess.

Then I'd have to find another Passat wagon TDI with warranty... that was hard enough the first time. I'm pretty sure this isn't a terminal problem. Definitely not worth the loss I'd take trading in a car I've only had for a few months. Besides, i'd probably just be starting all over again with new issues anyways. My last VW had about 5000$ put through warranty within the first two months of owning it. On that one, they left all the gear hooked up to it and a mechanic personally drove it to and from work for a week to find the problem. This is nothing new.

Got a notice from VW Canada about glow plugs on Friday. The fix is issued as a 'warranty extension' not a recall. It only applies to cars that had the bad glow plug recall done.

I got my notice as well.....they are a little vague about the fix, claiming they will replace the glow plugs and if required the software ie reflash the ecu. What is the voltage of the new glow plugs? That seems to be the source of the trouble with the switch from the original ceramic higher voltage glow plugs to the steel lower voltage glow plugs. My car used to start at -30 no problem but now if it is colder than -15 it is very hard to start. Below -20 it will not start.
I've had the new plugs for a few weeks now, they seem to work. Haven't got to try in really cold temps though, but around -15 at least, there was no hesitation.
It didn't solve my issue though.

I can try to get some part numbers off the invoice, but no, I didn't ask.
Update on car:
something screwy with an injector. I believe they said it was misdirected. Sound like at times fuel was getting past it too. It's likely something that was bad from day one. I need to get more details, but because of it there is some visible damage to the head. New head/injectors on the way c/w tandem pump. I think they finally found it!
I'm going to get the timing belt done at the same time.
I'll post the details of the problem later. If they have it open, maybe I'll ask to see it so I get a better idea of what they were talking about.
