Long story short I was backed into by a porta-potty companies trailer while they were picking up porta shitters, the company is rather small so I'm dealing with the owner directly. He left a business card on my parked car and left. I contacted the guy and filed out a police report. I went and had an estimate done at Cosmos and emailed the estimate to the business owner. He proceeded to call me and absolutely lose his mind on the phone, super abusive and uncooperative. He said if I didn't take the car to his buddy's shop I could go f*** myself. Nice guy. He refuses to provide me with his insurance info due to his apparently high deductible and also refused to pay for the work at the shop of my choosing.
Right now my insurance company (AMA) is in the process of retrieving a copy of the police report in hopes of getting his insurance info so that they can contact them and sort this out. It's taking weeks to get this report and I'd like to explore a few other options considering my insurance company may not be able to help.
Does anyone have any links concerning insurance law in Alberta? The guy argued on the phone that I had to provide more than one estimate (contradicting what Loc at Cosmos told me) and that he was going to contact the police to sort this all out. I'd like to send him a nice email stating the correct facts concerning insurance in Alberta. Maybe I can help him see the light. Paying up or providing his insurance info is going to allow us to avoid the time and money involved in taking this to civil court.
So if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
