    Re: TDI in a cabby

Do it. there was an article in Eurotuner that a guy swapped a TDI into a Corrado that was pretty neat.

          Re: TDI in a cabby

Talk to me about the engine hoist and stand, well currently I haven't had them at my place for probably 6-8 months. Somebody keeps pulling engines on cars, cough, cough, cough.
The biggest pain is the engine mounts and wiring for the swap. I have looked into this for my 92 Gti, but time and space has held me back.
Easiest thing to do, find an MK3 TDi tranny, and get a mechanical pump. With those two, you can almost eliminate the entire TDi harness except a manual glow plug switch.
In terms of smoke its simple, more fuel=more air. So if you want injectors, just put a bigger turbo to compensate the extra fuel. Just tell the wife its needed for the swap, sounds about right.....

Pretty sure I got a ride in that truck a few years back, unique and lotso fun fo' sure.

[QUOTE=Stonewall;218626]So far I have been unable to find a 1.8T parts car for a reasonable cost. If I was to go 1.8T I would want it to be a AWP (2002+) so I can go drive by wire etc and it seems to be the one with the least amount of parts hunting to get it to work.
              QUOTE]

Haven't really looked into it but aren't the older drive by cable 1.8t's make for easier swaps? For the trouble of a 20v swap its almost easier to do a 16vt setup and they can make huge power as well. I say do a gasser swap of some sort but hey tdi cabby would be damn sweet too.

                Re: TDI in a cabby

I have talked to a couple people with diesels in cabbys (or cabrios) and they have said they have had no problems with smoke so that is what I may end up doing in the end. Or I may end up doing nothing lol.
