  • Lit needles-who can do it?

So apparently you can modify the guages on MK4's so that the needles light up like they do on MK5's. Anyone know how to do this?

Got pics? The spedo and tach light up on mine, do you mean the gas gauge, oil temp, etc.?

Shouldn't be that hard to add some small LED's behind the needle area. I will take a look at the cluster I have at home and see how hard it would be.

I might have to do this to the van.

Derek, there's a thread on vortex that shows this step by step. I remember looking into it, but if I remember correctly, its not vag-com that does this. You need VAD...whatever that is. I'll try to find the thread later

Edit: this is mostly what I read through. Cant remember if it had all the info or not, but some good reading either way....

I remember this one intense mod on Vortex where the guy put a separate LED behind each tick and as your speed increases more of the gauge would light up as well.

i'm pretty sure it needs to be a euro cluster, half or full FIS. Correct me if i'm wrong.

OK well my euro full MFA cluster PCB I have has the LED's. I saw pictures on the vortex of the US R32 also having those LED's. Either way not hard to physically mod.

I think I'd like this mod for the first few days, maybe a week ... after it would just get annoying and really distracting at night.

they want the needles to stay light up at all times
