just a rant.So in the last few years i must have changed my tail light bulbs at least 10 times on my Jetta. sometimes even once a month. My girlfriend told me my left light was out when she was following me tonight. this is actually starting to piss me off now. i love my car but this is BS. just driving home i noticed 3 other jettas with their right or left tail lights burn out. talk about crappy electrical work. pretty embarrassing when i see so many Jettas like this.
anyone else have this problem? i know i have to suck it up but #$*&!

what I do is bend the tabs out a little so that the connection is more snug, and I also put dielectric grease in the bulb socket, well, anywhere really, that there is an electrical connection...

      Yesssss.

something to do with the tabs on our north american bulbs not high enough up the base, so it's not pressing on the bottom hard enough. Alex mentioned that is another post somewhere. I just give it a smack if it stops working.

                  Re: Jetta Fail

so does this mean, people are putting in the wrong bulbs
                  or
someone needs to contact DOT because this is a safety issue due to a bad design
                  put.......put.......

                  .... ... .. .

                    Re: Jetta Fail

probably more a safety thing... I've seen it a lot on Jettas.

My old 1981 toyota had a dash light that warned you if you had a burnt out tail light. Wonder why that never caught on.

                      Re: Jetta Fail

My new car tells you exactly what light is out on start up if any, with specifics for side and light.

I think lowered cars with firmer suspensions are harder on cheap bulbs and increase the stress on the filaments.

no kidding eh, my 80 volvo has that too, its such a simple thing to add, don't know why vw overlooked that

Also OP make sure that you aren't getting condensation in your lens from a bad seal or something. Any condensation in a lens will cause the bulb to fail prematurely
