  • Feeler: Power Gasket Group Buy

How many people would be interested in ordering a Power Gasket for their 1.8T engine at a reduced price? We would also be splitting the shipping. If 5 or more people are interested I will call around and find the best price. The buy won't happen until after the Holidays so that it does not interfere with people's hectic December schedules.

The "retail" is $50 - $60 US plus shipping.

The theory of this mod is to insulate the intake manifold from the block, reducing air temperatures enabling the ECU to advance timing and increase performace. At the very least this will slow down heat build up. There are many threads on VWVortex about this, and I agree that the performance change will probably be very small. However it is also cheap, and does do what it claims (intake manifold temperature stays lower, longer). What conviced me was a testimonial by 'TTSchwing', a very knowledgable 1.8T Audi TT tuner, along with some other scientific-like tests.

You need to remove your intake manifold to install it. While this is not the hardest thing to do, it can be a bit more intimidating than playing around with rubber hoses. As far as I know you can just remove two bolts, pull the manifold away a tiny bit, slip out the old (aluminum) gasket and slip in the new heat-insulating gasket. 1 or 2 hours per car.

I also don't have a garage so I probably can't install it until springtime. :(

definitely a pain in the ass.

Your favorite tool in the world is the magnet-on-a-stick. Don't even try to do this mod without this in your pocket!!!!!

once you finally figure out how to unclip your feul rail (And all that plastic crap) off of the intake manifold, you pull your manifold off (2 big bolts, 8 smaller ones that actually connect the manifold to the block) and you'll discover that you have a whopping 1.5 inches of clearance. You literally have to 'pull' your manifold away from the block while removing and then inserting your new gasket. The most fun is trying not to rub your RTV gasket maker off of your powergasket during the install

It's doable, but I wouldn't think of doing it in an unheated garage! And did I mention the magnet-on-a-stick? Trust me on that one

If there aren't too many people you guys could use my garage. I always like taking things apart.

I actually have some experience in removing a fuel rail and manifold on a 1.8T, but I am not sure if I would wnat to do it again.
