  • First CEL

    Hello,

My GTI runs fine as far as I can tell, the CEL came on mid way through my commute home. I don't have anything to scan a code, but the car isnt displaying any abnormal behavior. Running fine at 90, boosting, and RPM's at normal when idling.

The car rev's as usual, I don't know what this could be, although I know the possibilities are endless, and yes its a vw.

2002 GTI 1.8T 96,000km regular maintenance, chip, dv, exhaust.

I thought I heard the forge DV sound more like a blow out valve than a DV on a few gear changes, is it perhaps getting stuck due to being dirty, and would that throw a CEL if now recirculating properly?

    TYIA

sounds like a piston malfunction or a loose crank journal bearing. unhook your battery over night and press alt-ctrl-del.

There was some ticking in the underbelly of the car when I turned it off after getting home. It came from the middle-rear of the car.It was constant and was not a normal sound that I have heard other than normal ticks and clanks. Could that be it and is it serious?

I got the car with 60k, so for the last 37k I've been CEL free.

CEL is gone for now after unhooking the battery for a few hours.

                Will wait and see now.

                thank you.

                      Re: First CEL

what? no blinker fluid comments, it cuts down on the external clicking noises, having low blinker fluid would increase the sounds you heard coming from the underbelly of the car. (It's usually called blinker fluid because the blinker makes that ticking/clicking noise)

Go get it scanned next time it shows up, either get a member or go to auto value (both options are free).

Disconnecting the battery cleared the code but you don't know what set the code.
                      put.......put.......

                      .... ... .. .

*sigh*. What I like about Eurodrivers is that people are USUALLY willing to help. If I want to read sarcastic, useless responses I head over to Vortex.

The only way to find out about a CEL is to scan the codes. You had an offer from someone above, PM him. There is also the thread on who has VAG-COM. Check
It out and PM some close to you.

Good luck, I hope it us nothing serious.

Sorry man I was totally trolling you.

Really the only was you can find out what the code was is by scanning it. A battery reset can turn off the CEL but sometimes still keep it in the ECU. It will likely come on again if it is a real problem so wait till then and get it scanned.

I saw your troll and raised you one troll

I've already PM'd Tyler and will probably get it scanned tonight as he lives close by. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bad MAF. Ill know tonight.

                            Thanks.

I'm impressed you went so many km's without one. It sure it a pretty car, though.
