  • Braking Problems

My van’s brakes are not engaging intermittently when the pedal is pushed as we reverse it out of the garage. It is terrifying my wife and justifiably so. The problem is that it is so intermittent we can’t replicate it. The dealership found nothing wrong. Today it did it again and my wife noted that the pedal did not depress and seemed to be locked. Is this a brake booster problem? Please help before I throw a match into it as this is too much of a safety concern.

    thanks

    Re: Braking Problems

Master cylender. My old toyota did nearly the exact same thing. In my case, really gentle braking would not engage at times, and hard braking seemed to always work. The result was me hitting a lot of curb stops in parking lots as I slowly pulled up. Its scary for sure.

Anyone care to guess what a master cylinder replacement would cost at a dealership including parts?

i see part for 234$ online. I imagine dealer will have a big premium on that though. Not sure on labour. Stonewall (Brent) takes his van to Bert and Jacks. Could try that.

It could have a leak in the brake booster.

could also possibly be the proportioning valve or as stated above the brake booster seal

Although I was thinking if there was a vacuum issue the pedal would go to the floor
