  • VW Climatronic "Ticking" Noise

    Issue:
    My MK4 Climatronic makes a "ticking" noise coming from behind the dash. Seems like a servo or motor connected to a flap that keeps trying to go too far past a certain point to get back to a preset location. Since the Climatronic computer is not "swift" enough to figure it out... it tends to click or tick constantly... trying to get back to the position.

    If I raise the temperature setting up high enough, the clicking stops. Apparently, it has something to do with the "deflection angle of the temperature/air flow flap" and can be fixed witha Vag-Com?

    2 Questions:
    1. Have you had this issue on your vehicle?
    2. Were you able to permanently fix it with a Vag-Com?

    If you answered yes to both of the above... Call/PM Me! I need assistance!

      Good to know. I think I have the same problem, but it doesnt always happen. I have Vag-com so if you find a solution for it (Rob) let me know. I'll talk to EGOTRP about it and see what he says

        Pm sent!
        Just a quick note. It is the V71 blend flap motor. Sometimes if you push your recilculation‎ button it will help reset it. Vag-com might fix it as well. But these are all temporary solutions. The blend motor will have to be changed eventualy. If you let the dealer do it,will run you about $500 or so. The part is about $250-300 and 2 hours of labour. On that note i have not changed mine yet. But have to get it done before winter for sure. As when the heat is on, it does drive me crazy. Let me now how you guys handle this problem.
        Maybe there is someone on here that has done this repair and can help out. I heard the problem is common in all VR6's and is tricky to change as the space it tight to work with.

          Re: VW Climatronic "Ticking" Noise

          Thanks for the info. guys.

          For me, so long as the "inside temp" is set higher than the "outside temp" with the unit either on or off... the Climatronic makes no noises. As such, in Calgary... it basically makes no noise for me from about September through April.

          In spring/summer when this is not the case, the intermittent "ticking" noise comes back intermittently. It mostly doesn't bother me... but when it does start to get on my nerves... I have found one solution that works:

          1. Put on shades (if they aren't on already) ;
          2. Open up sunroof;
          3. Roll down windows;
          4. Make sure flapper is open; and
          5. Liberally apply usage of the "Go Pedal" and voila... the "ticking noise" is gone!

          Cheers...

            Vagcom can reset it to basic settings a temp repair.
            Replacement is the other option.
            Unless your double jointed 2 hours is probably tight.
