Mine has all of that, basically. Sounds like they cheaped out on the new jetta in comparison, but I actually like all of those features.

I'd like to try a manual, but loaners don't come that way.
U jelly? How's the DSG treating you? My girlfriend hates manual but it's made her a better driver. Our next car will be auto.

DSG is much better than the Tip in my Passat, but I'd still prefer standard. The DSG still has a bit more lag then I'd like at times.

Hmm, that's what I thought. I've never driven DSG however, but that's good to know.

Um, pretty sure the Jettas still have 6 speed tiptronics?

Edit: Yep tdi's have dsg, gassers have tips.

Guess you're right. Still better than the tip setup in my Passat.

Passat have a 5 speed? I'm surprised they would bother updating the tip if it's going to be a base volume unit. Can't argue with the concept though, for auto people who will never use paddles, why pay for all the extra dsg service/cost.

I think the TDI and the 5 speed tip just don't pair well. If it is starting in first at 800rpm and you floor it, the TDI doesn't have much jam. It is clumsy and delayed until it hits boost, and then the tires spin. At least with the manual, you can engage first gear at a higher RPM. I'm mostly used to it, and it is a great family car.

                        Re: New Jetta

Well after being out of the VW scene for close to 5 years, I'm back with the purchase of a 2011 Jetta thanks to Derek and Perry @ 5th Ave. (By far my best experience buying a new vehicle) .

I've had the car for a week now, and I love it! But before I go too far, the car is a 2.SLOW Automatic Comfortline, with a sunroof, and connectivity. My girlfriend and I bought it, because the lease on her 2008 Civic is up in November. She will be assuming the payment, and at that point I'll start looking for another VW for myself.

                        Ok flame suit on!

I was a skeptic at first too, and shared the same opinions as most of you here. I'm coming from a fully loaded 2009 Ram 1500 and considered this a "downgrade". But I'm enjoying this VW just as much as the others I've owned. For those of you complaining, have you ever driven the competition?

When comparing the Dodge to the Jetta it was like apples to oranges. But comparing the Civic to the Jetta it is apples to apples. However, the Jetta wins hands down.

                        The Jetta has:
                        - little to no road noise
                        - better fit and finish inside and out
                        - better materials used inside and out
                        - more interior room
                        - huge trunk
                        - comfortable seats
                        - better ride & handling

The few things that I don't really like about the car are that the cluster is pretty simple, no engine temp gauge. At -9.5 the "-" sign disappears. My simple fix is to somehow get rid of the .5 increments and go up or down by 1.0. Easier said than done I'm sure.

This might be a half step back from the mkV but its more than just on par with its competition. This vehicle wasn't made for enthusiasts, it was made for the average consumer. All they really care about are the price point, safety and reliability. In the past VW offered safety and reliability now the Jetta takes the cake on all of those. The over mentioned criticisms of a hard plastic dash, drum brakes, hood prop rod.... well people only touch the dash when they're cleaning it, brakes only have to stop the car, and most of them will not be doing work under the hood so what do they care! However, I still really enjoy it! and cannot wait to see/perhaps purchase the GLI or a wagon.

                        Some pics

Any word on a wagon Derek?

Found out the car I'm driving is a Sportline, not Highline as I had thought. That would explain the suspension stiffness.
