      Re: New Jetta

Car feels pretty nice really. 2.5L. The auto transmission is much more responsive from a standstill that the one in my Passat, but that doesn't say much i suppose... It's not that bad though. Steering is super light feeling. It was pretty zippy though. There are some details lacking for sure. The underside of the hood isn't lined, and it doesn't have the pneumatic cylinder to hold up the hood, just the old style flip up support. I don't think the stereo sounds as nice as the one in my Passat (which is not monsoon). It has just a bump on the roof for an antenna, and I thought the radio reception was poor, so I'm not sure that antenna design is quite right. I'm not sure what trim level it is. I'll have to check the options on the vw site. The front end looks a little too aggressive for the rest of the car, IMO. It could use some body styling to make it come together. GLI should look better.

Sad when the fact that it has 4 wheel disks is worthy of comment. Not sure what VW is doing....

I will wait for GLI before making a verdict. Though that new Optima is sure getting my attention.

Suspension is similar setup to MK4 for sure. I think it is stiffer that then stock mk4 version. Looks like there is some extra sway bar components in the rear too. It didn't look like there was much for the protective undercoating under there though, so that would have to be done for sure.

For a family sedan, I don't mind the way it drives at all. My sister just bought a Cobalt for around the same price as this and the quality and ride of this care is miles ahead. I think it will do alright for sales, even if it isn't what a lot of guys on here are looking for.

The more I see these, the more i like them, the Jetta R however makes my pants tight thinking about the fun that could be had with a supercharger/turbo on that.

                        Re: New Jetta

I'm driving this car again for a few days. More things I noticed:
-Traction control/ESP has no disable switch
-If temp is less than -9°, then it doesn't have room for a minus sign and it just shows 10° with a snowflake - weird.
-Clock is on radio and dash, convienient?
-no temp gauge - cluster is a little basic all round really.
-Seat heat has only 3 settings instead of 5
-A/C comes on when heat turned to defrost. Of course A/C helps a ton to defrost the inside of your car, as it dries out the air, but I find it odd that the car turns it on for you.
-Not sure about visibility yet. I don't think you can see as much as previous versions. Especially out the back window. Could just be the massive SCFC advert

My GTI also has some similar features, the AC does come on when max defrost is chosen, seat only has 3 choices too, but starts at the warmest which I like. I have 2 clocks as well but I can turn my ESP off and see temps in the negative double digits, unfortunately.

                                Re: New Jetta

I'm starting to like the feel of it. Suspension is fairly stiff for an OEM car that isn't really performance oriented. It sounds decent when it accelerates. It could use winter tires for sure.
I'd like to try a manual, but loaners don't come that way.
