What's everyone think of the new Jetta?

The reviews aren't very charming...my gut is that this is a step in a wrong direction...and a step away from what got me into a VW in the first place...

      Re: New Jetta

I think people forget what the Jetta is about, a family sedan the likes of the Accord, Camry, Malibu etc, never really an exciting group and the bread & butter car for Volkswagen in North America. 99% of buyers are not going to push its limits of style and performance and the rest of us may look twice when the GLI or R come out.

And yes I agree the MK5 is not the best looker either and look how many you see!

I've been a big believer (and hoper) that the MKVI would excel at being a Jetta again. Visually I'm a fan. Far more so than the MKV, but not as much as a MKIII or MKIV.

The new A4 is gorgeous though, as previously stated.

A bit of a price difference between an A4 and a Jetta though.

                    Re: New Jetta

What concerns me more is downgrading and cheapening the interior to entry level/japanese standards. VW's had by far the best interior for the money prior to this car...its a major reason they've had the market success they've had.

I recognize they need to compete price-wise in the 'rolling appliance' market...but dropping interior quality and becoming more Vanilla (than say, a MKIV) in the exterior department will leave less to differentiate them from the most boring cars made...japanese econoboxes!

People do still want a car with some character and quality...even at the lower end of the market.

Base price is $15,875 granted that's for the 2.slow but hopefully the rest of the lineup is affordable too. Cant' wait to see what the GLI will look like!

Amen to that. I recently had the (dis)pleasure of driving around in an 07 Passat, and what a hunk of ****. I felt ashamed to be inside that thing. Biggest thing that struck me was that the paint (or whatever it is) on the push-button e-brake was already completely worn out. I see better wear and tear on a 25yr old mk2.

Totally agree. Its one of the reasons I bought a VW. Its like buying a nice house which looks great on the outside, built of granite. But then filling the interior with cheap furniture. If one is going to be 'IN' the car (not outside it when driving) so it makes sense to have a good quality interior.

Well my MK6 interior I think is fantastic, but I know we are talking about the new Jetta which will have some differences, and I wonder if varying trims will also differ. I will have to wait till I actually sit in one before I decide though.
