  • dimer wire for new deck confusion ?!?!

    Hey folks,

Just put my new deck in and am a bit confused about the dimmer wire. from what i can see from a couple of wiring diagrams ive managed to DL it looks like the dimmer wire should be a Grey/blue wire but when ive tested this it doesnt seem to change with the light switch and seems to only be putting out 5v which immediately makes me think it must actually be the canbus wire.

maybe ive got an old model wiring diagram, car is a 2000 GTI, anyone got the correct diagram?

Can anyone confirm what the dimmer wire colour is or if it is actually a canbus signal and if so where i should pull a new wire to to get the dimmer signal? new deck is really bright at night lol

for some reason my amp wont turn on either so im gonna have to take everything apart again anyway so id like to do it all at once.

had a look on vortex but cant tie anything down on there either thanks

    cheers

you should still have a true dimmer line in a 2000.. newer ones dimmer is canbus controlled of all things.. did you not use a wiring harness?

yep and found a couple more wiring diags showing it to be the grey blue, who knows maybe it is canbus. I might have to run a new wire form the headlight switch maybe.

      Grrr nothings ever straight forward

What about the light that does the ashtray? That's dimmer controlled I believe.

Usually the dimmer wire is orange, the remote turn on for the amps is white/blue. At least for the past 5 decks for MKIV's that I've done they have been.

don't worry about CANbus 'til 2002.5 MY
and make sure the "K" line isn't in your harness adapter labeled as something else.

ok thanks, ill break out the multimeter this weekend and do som testing, ill see if the orange wire is switched and if not ill take a look at the ashtray light wire as well.

The K line is the blue wire isnt it?

              Thanks guys,

The original deck should show the pin out on a sticker, just make sure that the "K-line" position on the adapter is empty, you should also be able to figure out the illumination from that sticker.

I believe the voltage is from about 8 - 10volts. I should also be marked on whichever harness adapter you bought.
