  • Mk3 Jetta Power window and park light problem

    1994 Jetta
First problem: The car is equipped with power windows, but only the drivers side works. From what I have read, the problem is with the window regulators failing. Would 3 out of 4 fail or is there another problem i should tend to?

Second problem: Even if the ignition is off, the park lights remain on. The headlights function correctly, but the fog lights do not work either. My first thought was the light switch. Any other ideas?

Any input would be appreciated. TIA

Windows are often the wire harnesses to the door. Try to pull back the rubber sleeve between the door hinges and look at the wires. I have one window that doesnt work in my mk3 and the wires in there look awful. I also know that previous owner replaced wire harnesses in at least one other door, so concievably two or more doors could fail this way.

    Just a thought...

Windows sounds like the wiring as Stefan pointed out. As to the parking lights sounds like a bad ignition switch.

Thanks for the input, guys. I will look at the door harnesses this week.

As for the park lights, I may have found a possible cause. The previous owner had a leaky battery installed and the acid leaked onto some wires just underneath the tray. It just so happens, those wires are for the lights. I will fix that and go from there.

Solved. The park light issue was simple - bad light switch. I will still check those wires underneath the tray at a later time.

The problem with the windows were as Stefan described. Faulty door harnesses although one of the windows was a bad motor. Thanks for your help.
