Re: R32 Owner Poll (Or if you know a lot about them)

Winter is out. I have a great year round car that has been rock solid reliable for 11 years since new, as long as it keeps it up I just can't justify selling it.

If the AWD doesn't make that much of a difference in the summer then this makes my GTI decision even easier.

To be honest I was very surprised when my wife was okay with me checking out and maybe buying the R I found. I'm not sure if she did this intentionally (she's not the manipulative type) but with her in agreement I think I was more open to considering the pros and cons, if she immediately disagreed I may have been more defensive and closed minded.

I realize that there are many more features on the R32, aside from performance pieces, that bring it up to a higher trim level but I've lived this long without rain sensing wipers, headlight sprayers etc. I think I blinded myself to the extra expense of an R32 because I was so excited to see they could be brought into Canada, now with that initial excitement gone I'm going to keep things more real... with the money I save I can finally get a new bedroom set, living room furniture and not have to listen to my wife asking for a laptop. Where I'm at financially it doesn't make sense to put that much money into a car so the more economical options have become even more appealing.

I've reached a decision. As far as I'm concerned this thread is closed; however feel free to continue the debate.

    Thanks!

My 24v vr6 GTI has automatic climate control, auto dimming rearview mirror and rain sensing wipers; these are not exclusive to a R32.

Haldex isn't terrible, but I prefer the Torsen diff. I've driven 3 cars with Haldex and 4 cars with Torsen and all of the torsens felt better.

100% agreed on having a 245HP anvil of an engine to move along a tank of a car.

Alright so tonight I picked up some seats from Art "EGOTRIP" who was nice enough to let me play around in his .:R32 like a little kid, having owned a loaded MKIV all I can say is wow. when I replace my daily I will for sure be looking for an R32, It is just such a nicer interior and trimmed car, much better than an average MKIV and still very practical.

For me it hits all the checks, Its comfortable, seems like a reliable engine, An amazing exhaust note, AWD for the winter and tonnes of space in the passanger area and trunk,Its not to flashy like a lot of similar competitors such as an STi. Sure its not a race car but as mentioned above its not meant to be, Which is just fine with me as I dont speed much anymore.

Its really a car thats suited for the right driver. You either love it or hate it, there is no shades of grey. All I know is the first time I got to drive one, it felt like sex. 9 months later......I got an .:R

It's official... somebody loves their .:R more than I do.

Exactly why I bought mine... and exactly why my next addition to the garage will be an RS4.

LOL. I'm not convinced the RS4 gets to be known as reliable with the carbon buildup issues it has. That being said, damn do I love the RS4 everytime I see it. I'd buy an E92 M3 over it though.

Good stuff... the E92 M3 is my second choice. Not that it's a lesser car or anything... but the AWD thing is enough to give the Audi the nod for me.

You snag a GTi yet? R32 or GTi... it's really a win-win if you ask me.

Nope, I bought a B5 Audi S4 Avant. I always lust after wagons when I see them so I bought one. I also wanted a car that I could screw a lot of power out of and I missed having a turbocharged car.

Not yet, things are in the works. I put a deadline on myself to make a decision for Monday.
