  • Back in the Family!

Buying a used GTI in the US didn't work out so well, so I turned from used to new and today I bought my first new car.

2010 Golf 3 Door Sportsline in Amaryllis Red Metallic.

Taking delivery this week, so very excited as a 1st time new car owner.

            Problems I encountered.

1.Buying of the 'tex is next to impossible because nothing is stock, getting it across the border=no go from what CBSA told me multiple times.

            2. I found a car (2007 2 door Black GTI) in PA that had been up for sale for a while, talked to the seller about the car my interest questions etc. The guy seemed really up front about any issues the car had (dent passenger side above wheel well) and it had low ish (70k) miles, so I told him I would come check the car out in a week when I flew in, would have it inspected by a mechanic and if all was as he said then would buy at his price. (12k US)

2 days before I arrive in PA he sold the car to somebody else and didn't tell me. So while I understand that if you have a potential buyer lined up and somebody offers you cash its pretty much a done deal, but he could have let me know. Maybe he wasn't as upfront as I thought.

            3. I then found 2 other cars of similar price/condition. 1 is in NJ at what seems to be the shadiest used car dealer I've ever dealt with - "To guarantee our low prices, all cars must purchase our in house extended warranty". I told them I was exporting but they wouldn't give me a price on how much this warranty was, or if I had the ability to buy without/what the car would cost. I was 500 miles away and they kept telling me to "come by on Saturday" Shady @ss MoFo.

The other was in Houston and the dealer wouldn't give me a carfax/history of the vehicle, or its Mileage.

Then our dollar dipped down to .93 and my search stopped.

Damn Americans!! Thankfully I didn't have any of the issues you had when importing my car. Hallelujah to that.

Oh well... I think you'll be much happier with your new Vdub anways. The greatest thing about a new car is knowing where she's been and knowing how she's been treated. If you treat her right... she'll last you a long time. Enjoy.

Wow. You sure had a raw experience. I have purchased over 10 cars from the US and only been burnt once. All of them were great other than a GTI that came back clean on carfax and i got an inspection but once I got there is was incredibly obvious it had been in a big wreck.

I don't understand the statement about not being able to bring across a modified car? Mine was modified and I had no issues whatsoever!

                    Re: Back in the Family!

when I called the CBSA about bringing across a car with any aftermarket modifications they told me (on multiple occasions, I called 3x to make sure I wasn't talking to one ignorant person) that there is no leeway. It's stock or not allowed.

Either way I picked her up tonight. The red is really nice. Glad I went with that over the shark blue. Now to debadge it and save some cash for coils. Wheel gap is gross!

I'll get photos once it stops raining outside.

List of quick n easy mods to be done soon

                              1. Black out sidemarkers. Eww Orange.
                              2. Vinyl wrap the roof, maybe the mirrors too.
                              3. Debadge

Easy but not so happy mod

1.Straighten out my license plate because the holes they drilled into the bumper aren't even close to level and its driving me crazy.
