I am new to the spacer/offset thing & I'm looking for everyone's expertise on the matter. My question is what spacers would I need to make my 38mm offset rims sit flush on my 04 Jetta?
My rims are 17 x 7 with a 47mm offset (5 x 114.3 BCD) & 215/40/R17 tires on all four corners. I am having some custom adapters made & I need to figure out the thickness for these. So would a 30mm thick adapter work for the front and back?
A 30mm adapter would give you a final offset of 17 in the front and back. Would look great in the back, but would be quite a bit of poke in the front IMO

17x7 et 17 won't poke.
Op, i'd say get some different wheels.. maybe its just my personal preference but a 7" wide wheel will look funny. Also, you won't be able to stretch at all.. but if you must know i'd go with final et's of 10 in the front, and et 5 in the back. Those are going to be some big adapters, i'd recommend picking a different wheel.
I would love to go with a 8" wide wheel, but I have had these rims for a while now (from my other car). I would like to put them on the car instead of collecting dust in the garage. Worst case senario, if they look bad I can use them for a winter set up.
To make them look respectable what would be decent recommend for a fitment then?
The vendor is recommending 35mm in the rear & 25mm in the front.
I don't need them to be flush with the fender.

You're going to be forking out 400$+ for adapters.. why not sell the wheels take that money and the money you would've spent on adapters and buy some say.. 800-1000$ wheels?
