  • AWP - 1.8T - Fault Code

Scanned my mom's 1.8T and retrieved the following fault code. No check engine light. From what I have researched, this can be caused by cold weather as it is intermittent. Also, if gas cap is not closed properly, it could also trigger this fault.

    1 Fault Found:
16825 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow
    P0441 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
    Readiness: 0000 0000

Does anyone have any experience with this code? Rosstech provided the following on the code:

16825/P0441/001089 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow

    Possible Symptoms
    Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) active

    Possible Causes
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve (N80) faulty/jammed
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve (N115) faulty/jammed
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Sealing faulty
Pipes between Tank Breathing and Throttle Body leaky/blocked

    Possible Solutions
Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve (N80)
    Perform Output Test
Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve (N115)
    Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister
    Perform Basic Setting
Check Pipes between Tank Breathing and Throttle Body

I will clear and see if it is triggered again. Thanks in advance.

    Re: AWP - 1.8T - Fault Code

Only happens when it's below freezing, right? It's the evap control valve. It has a bit of water condensation in it and it's freezing open. You can 1) replace it, or 2) take it out, blow it out with compressed air, spray in WD-40 and actuate the valve (connect/disconnect a 12V source) a few times, blow out the WD-40 residue and reinstall it.

I have to do the same with the evap valve on a 2.0l beetle that was throwing the same code all winter.

Yes. From what I have read, it usually occurs when it is cold outside. I will clear it and see if it returns. At least now I know how to fix it.

      Thanks again,
