  • Ko3-my new paperweight

New turbo and exhaust are finally in.

Garrett GT25 ball bearing turbo, ATP downpipe, 2.5" Brullen cat back. Bout' 50km's and so far so good. Brullen has a nice throaty sound and the turbo is so much fun. Takes a little longer to spool, but much stronger than the ko3 in the top end.

One little annoyance. Couple times tonight I'd step on it and only get 5psi (felt like my old ko3 at 15psi). I know my diverter valve is toast. Could that be causing it, or maybe the ecu is still getting used to the ATP programming? Any ideas? Thnx.

that happened/happens to me every once in an odd while. I do believe its software related. Software related problems will plague you until you die unless you find a better solution as I'm trying.

Pretty powerful kit eh? Who installed it? I've got some tips to give you and would REALLY like to meet up with you when I'm back in Calgary.

I'll PM ya when i'm back next week.

Nice, 'grats Chad! I do believe you own me a ride sometime Better make it a nice dry day though to be safe. The 5psi limiter is the infamous "limp mode", I hit it too sometimes. Its definitely a software problem - basically there is a limit to how much turbo pressure you are allowed to have, and if you exceed it you get limited to 5psi for a little while.

What all came with the kit? Did you get a FMIC as well? I think I asked you before but I can't remember.

Also, how're you finding all that power on the slippery winter roads?

            Drooool,

Sounds awesome! You boys need to let me ride in the high boost society =)

I think hitting 23-24 PSI will make you hit limp mode.

QuA: Well there is no absolute for "limp mode", I imagine that Chad's turbo kit came with different software... for sure spiking that high on a regular "chip" does it.... 13-14psi gets you into limp mode on a stock program.

Did C1 do the turbo install, and do you know how many hours it took?

How much do ATP kits cost?

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

Still getting stuck whith the 5psi now and again. Very frustrating. I figured it had something to do with the ATP software. Aside from that it runs very smooth. Like stock untill boost hits, so driving on slick roads is no problem. Just stay out of boost. (I do have a beater for those really nasty days)

C1 did the install. Not sure how many hours for just the turbo, because they did my exhaust, rear valence etc. at the same time and billed me for a lump # of hours.

No FMIC , yet. The nice thing with this turbo is you can upgrade things down the road as you see fit, more aggressive software, bigger injectors etc. But just the turbo "kit" by itself is pretty potent.

Check out ATP's site for the details on their kits. Vw turbo.com I believe.

Sean:very interested to hear about your experiences with this.

You can limit how much pressure you are getting using a MBC/relief valve. This should keep you from limp mode... there are various designs for this.... if you want to know some specifics I can fill you in, I am *still* trying to build mine, having failed twice due to cheap and crappy parts.
