  • 1.8t boosting problems

My car recently started having a weird boost problem.. as soon as I hit any amount of boost, the power hits the wall, and the whole car vibrates for a second. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but I haven't boosted more than I need to, to get going, since it has started. No more than 5psi.

My car is chipped if that helps, what could this be? I thought of something turbo related right away, or tuning related, as I don't know who or where the vehicle was tuned (po had it chipped). Any other ideas? I'm going to do some searching on the tex, but any opinions would be appreciated.

    Bad coil pack?

Call up the dealer and have them changed free of charge.

On the list of things to check.. i'm going to check the plugs and the coilpacks right quick here and see if thats the problem. Wouldn't a bad coilpack cause a misfire though?

      There isn't a CEL, either.

Had the same problem. I just disconnected the battery for 10min and it was back to normal.

Although, i am not chipped, nor did i have a shake. So even if it solves your boosting issues, there still seems to be something wrong.

Edit: Check all the wiring that goes from the coilpacks.

Could be a coilpack, they can cause misfires only under heavy load sometimes. i had many problems with my coilpacks on my jetta. So i just replaced them all with better ones. First one that went misfired strait from idle, second didnt till i was boosting hard.

does that recall apply for all 1.8T's? I just bought one, and mine kind of stutters when accelerating. I have a feeling it's misfiring. I need to get a vag-com cable so I can test this stuff for myself.

Most I believe, i'm gonna head over to the stealership tomorrow. I hope its a coilpack, but I didn't hear it misfire.

When one of my coilpacks started to crap out, I had very similar symptoms that you described. It didn't trigger a CEL either.

Call the service department tomorrow and give them your vin to see if you are eligible for the coilpack re-call.

Just to update, coilpacks were done at the dealer, car runs great again. Just to make sure, the tuning was acting differently than before, i'm assuming the ecu has to kind of re-adjust itself, am I right?
