  • wheel bearing already??

so my other thread i wanted to change my tires cause of a noise that is coming from the left rear tire. so changed wheels back to winters and the noise is still there. straight line there is a humming noise, turn right noise gets louder, turn left noise is gone. any ideas??
    if so covered by warranty?

had a oil change done recently too and george noticed a oil leak that he said was coming from the headgasket, he said to wait a few months then go in. are these normal problems for 07 gti with 63k km.

oil leak from the headgasket?? doubtful. Why would George say wait a few months? Don't make sense.

The noise you are hearing is the wheel bearing. Warrenty job.

ya the oil leak just started, no drops on the ground yet. not sure what he is thinking. i went underneath and looks like he is right, car will be booked asap for both problems i guess.

Running goofy offsets on your wheels? Spacers/Poke will kill bearings yearly if it's dramatic enough.

            Re: wheel bearing already??

I have already replaced a wheel bearing on my rabbit 2008 with 72k, they didn't want to do it at southcentre because the car was lowered for 5000kms thinking that would take a wheel bearing out??? so be careful. My mk5 has had a handfull of problems, all the vents have been done, 2 heater boxes, new clutch, new transmission, engine mounts, wiper arms and so on.. so needless to say, nothing is to soon..

              Re: wheel bearing already??

it's going in monday, i'm not lowered so that shouldn't be a problem. i've had a couple minor things if the head gasket has to be done to then i'm getting into some major stuff. i have warranty on this stuff till next october so i'm not worried but i was thinking about keeping this car long term now i might not.

it was the wheel bearing so that's getting fixed, she said the valve cover was a little loose so they tighted that. but she said my turbo is starting to leak oil.... what to do now?? she said cause i have a chip it's not covered under the warranty too. i have to get my car tomorrow so i'll get more details then

                    Re: wheel bearing already??

may not be as bad as it could be. vw says oil from the valve cover came down the block and it might look like it is coming from the head but it's really the gasket. there was 2 drops of oil on the bottom of the turbo. any ideas about that?? possible sweating?? the plan is to clean up whatever oil is on the engine and see if anymore appears.

                        Re: wheel bearing already??

wheel bearing was warranty, no price on the sheet they gave me. sorry
you can tell when it's going humming when driving and if you take the weight off the wheel it goes away. if you jack the car up you should have play in the wheel if the bearing is going although mine didn't. i'd like to guess how much but that's what it'd be $300-500 maybe
