  • Wheel Opinions.. MK2!

So i am going to be buying some new wheels for my golf, and i think ive decided on the style, just not the size.

I am looking for some past/present mk2 owners, and what size wheels they run (15/16x7.5/8/9). Also, your lowness and any fender work included would be nice.

Right now i am thinking 15x8 rm's or modernlines et15, but the rm's have kodiak lips (which i have heard are very soft correct me if im wrong). Also looking at 16x9 but i dont think i can run those in the front and i would rather not run a staggered setup on fwd, cause thats super uncool

Anyways, any input/advice would be appreciated, im hopefully starting to try to rebuild this thing to respectable status and get her up and running..

My small bumpered 89 GTX had 15x8" rm's on it. I had the front fenders cut out and the rears rolled. I was running 195/45/15 t1r's. I also ran 10 mm spacers on the back to get them to sit relatively flush with the fronts. The amount of rubbing you have will be dependant on the make and size of tires and of course your suspension set up. I rubbed a little with the cupkit I had but had no rubbing when I switched to coilovers as they were stiffer. I think you would have difficulties running 16x9's on a MK2 successfully but I could be wrong!

16x9's, 195/45R16 yoko's. ET 25. No major rubbing (it rubs a little on the front flares at full steering lock, but none while normal driving). Front fenders cut, rears hammered flat, all hidden under the flares.

Also, 15x8's with an ET of 25-15 and 195/45 or 50R15 fit really nice.
